Place Value & Algebraic Thinking 5th Grade Math Intervention Unit

Use this editable 5th grade intervention unit for extra practice with place value to the billions and hundredths, rounding decimals, base ten and expanded form, and mathematical properties.

The worksheets are not meant to be used for full class lessons, although they could be if that is your preference. Because the unit is editable, you are able to add word problems to it if you would like.

Google Slides versions are included for each set of skills, along with a Google Forms version of each pre assessment and post assessment (4 total assessments).

What’s included

Each skill comes with the following resources:

• Tracking sheet: record the dates and scores for each activity as well as the entire unit.
• Pre and post assessments per skill cluster: a simple pre and post assessment for each skill cluster.
• Scaffolded notes: notes that have been broken down for students to fill in the details. Since this will not be the first time students have seen the information, they are not as detailed as introductory notes. Two versions are included, blank and completely filled in.
• Review sheet: a quick review, a student input section and problems intended to be used as guided practice.
• Practice worksheet: use as independent or partner practice.
• Extra practice worksheet: an additional page of practice for each skill.
• Error analysis: each problem is solved incorrectly. Students identify the error(s) and then solve it correctly.
• Google Slides: each set of worksheets for each skill is included in a Google Slides format for students to write notes on if they have tablets.
• Google Forms: multiple choice and multi-select versions of the pre assessments and post assessments.

How to use it

Keep the unit printed in a binder in your classroom. Intervention teachers, assistants, volunteers and others can grab it and work with a small group of students on a set of skills designated by you. Worksheets can be completed as printed sheets, or you can place them in sheet protectors and give them to students for reusable dry erase practice.
