Word Problems 5th Grade Math Intervention Unit

Word problems are the focus of this 5th grade math intervention unit. Students get extra practice solving word problems that involve whole numbers, decimal operations, fraction operations and geometry.

What’s included

Each skill comes with the following resources:

• Tracking sheet. Record the dates and scores for each activity as well as the entire unit.
• Pre and post assessments. A simple pre and post assessment is included.
• Scaffolded notes. The notes cover solving word problems in general. They are not included for each type (fractions, decimals, etc.).
• Review sheet. A quick review, a student input section and problems intended to be used as guided practice.
• Practice worksheet. Use as independent or partner practice.
• Error analysis. Each problem is solved incorrectly. Students identify the error or errors and then solve correctly.

How to use it

These are extra practice pages for 5th grade students. The worksheets are not meant to be used for full class lessons, although they could be if that is your preference.

Print the unit and keep it in a binder in your classroom, where intervention teachers, assistants or volunteers can pick it up and work with a small group of students on the skills you designate. Students can write on the printed sheets, or you can put the pages in sheet protectors for reusable dry erase practice.

Good to know

The unit is editable, so you can modify the questions and notes to fit your needs. Some figures are secured to the background to protect copyright and cannot be edited.
