Multiplying & Dividing Fractions 5th Grade Math Intervention Unit

This editable 5th grade math intervention unit covers multiplying and dividing fractions: multiplying fractions and mixed numbers, dividing fractions and whole numbers, and measurement conversions.

Most problems are basic fraction operation problems, though there are word problems in the unit as well. Because the file is editable, you can add word problems to it if you would like.

What’s included

Each skill comes with the following resources:

• Tracking sheet. Record the dates and scores for each activity as well as the entire unit.
• Pre and post assessments per skill cluster. A simple pre and post assessment is included for each skill cluster.
• Scaffolded notes. Notes that have been broken down for students to fill in the details. This will not be the first time students have seen the information, so these notes are less detailed than introductory notes. Two versions are included, blank and completely filled in.
• Review sheet. A quick review, a student input section and problems intended to be used as guided practice.
• Practice worksheet. Use as independent or partner practice.
• Extra practice worksheet. An additional page of practice for each skill.
• Error analysis. Each problem is solved incorrectly. Students identify the error or errors and then solve correctly.
• Google Forms. Multiple choice and multi-select versions of the pre assessments and post assessments.

How to use it

The unit provides extra practice resources for 5th grade students. The worksheets are not meant to be used for full class lessons, although they could be if that is your preference.

Keep the unit printed in a binder in your classroom. Intervention teachers, assistants or volunteers can grab it and work with a small group of students on a set of skills you choose. Students can complete the worksheets as printed sheets, or you can place the pages in sheet protectors for reusable dry erase practice.
