The Distributive Property Pairs Check Activity

Students in grades 6 and 7 simplify expressions using the distributive property, color their page, then check their answers with a student who has the other half of the page. This pairs check activity combines a coloring activity with the ease and collaboration of a self-checking activity.

How it works

1. Some students are given “Page A” while others are given “Page B.”
2. Each student completes their page, both the solving and the coloring.
3. They find another student who has the opposite page.
4. They fold their paper in half and match up their coloring page with their partner’s.
5. If they are both correct, both of the coloring pages should line up.

Each page contains different questions, but they lead to an answer with the same color.
