Percents Cube Math Activity

In this percent activity for grades 6 to 8, students roll paper cubes to generate their own problems, so they get plenty of practice without everyone being handed the exact same worksheet. The Tax, Tip & Discount Cube Activity covers finding the percent of a number, tax, tip, discounts, and new totals.

How it works

Students roll two paper cubes. One determines the original total. The other determines the percent and whether they are calculating a tax, tip, or discount. Each roll creates a new problem, so students can practice the same skill repeatedly without working through another page of identical questions.

To make it more challenging, have students roll the tax/tip/discount cube twice and calculate a new total involving two percent applications, such as a discount followed by tax, or tax followed by a tip.

The cubes generate the problems for you. Students can roll again and again for additional practice, and you can change the level of difficulty depending on what your students are ready for.
