Line of Best Fit Scatter Plot Activity

Students create scatter plots, draw a line of best fit on each and use it to make predictions in this activity for grades 6 to 10. It lets them show and deepen what they understand about scatter plots, lines of best fit and writing equations, and it suits varying levels of ability.

What students do

• Create and interpret 3 scatter plots from the data provided.
• Draw lines of best fit.
• Predict. Advanced students can write equations for their lines and use the equations for prediction, while beginners predict using the lines of best fit.
• Answer two constructed response type questions.
