Scientific Notation Halloween Activity – Standard Form Matching Cards

Students match 12 numbers written in scientific notation with their 12 equivalents in standard form. This 8th grade card activity gives focused practice converting between scientific notation and standard form, with positive and negative exponents, so students work with both large and small numbers.

It comes in a Halloween version and a non-themed version, so the same activity works in October or at any other time of year.

How to use it

Use the printable cards with partners, in a math station, or for independent practice. You can also give each student one card and have students move around the room to find the classmate holding their match. For a shorter assignment or an informal assessment, pick the pairs you want and leave out the rest of the set.

Students record their matches and show their work on the recording sheet, and the answer key makes checking quick.
