Percent of a Number Christmas Math Project

“Shop ‘Til You Drop: Percent Change Project” is a holiday math project on percent of a number for grades 6 to 9. Students review finding percentages and work through multi-step percent problems, using holiday shopping ads as the source.

How it works

1. Students act as shoppers. They use actual holiday ads to pick apart and determine percent changes.
2. After analyzing the discounts, they switch roles and become the advertisers, creating their own shopping ads that show their math skills.

Two holiday themes are included, one for Thanksgiving and one for winter.

The project is a real-world application of percents. Students practice the skills they will need to handle finances and discounts outside of school.
