Operations with Scientific Notation Math Coloring Page – Christmas Themed Option

Students solve 10 problems on operations with scientific notation (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing) on this coloring page for grades 7 to 9. Each problem has three answer choices, and each choice is paired with a color. Students use the color of their answer to fill in a holiday picture. A wrong answer shows up as a color that doesn’t fit, so students and teachers can spot mistakes at a glance.

The wrong answer choices come from mistakes students really make. On problem 1, for example, students who add the exponents get 6.4 x 10¹¹, and students who add the coefficients without matching exponents first get 6.4 x 10⁶. Other choices have the right value but aren’t in proper scientific notation, such as 11.9 x 10¹⁴.
