Mass Matching Activity – 4th Grade Math Activity

Mass Matching is a 4th grade measurement activity where students estimate, identify and match mass measurements in metric units (grams, kilograms) and customary units (ounces, pounds).

Students match mass cards to real-world objects and to equivalent values. That gets them thinking critically about what a reasonable measure is and strengthens their estimation skills.

How it works

The activity comes in two formats, which makes it easy to differentiate:

• A hands-on puzzle grid for cutting and matching
• A worksheet-style version for paper-and-pencil practice

Setup is quick, with minimal prep. The matching builds real-world connections to mass and weight, reinforces estimation and reasoning, and supports the measurement standards.
