Combining Like Terms Halloween Math Activity

For this Halloween themed math activity, students match up expression cards by combining like terms. A template is included, so you can create your own cards in place of the ones provided or make additional cards.

What’s included

• Numbered and lettered expression cards to match
• A student answer page
• An additional work page
• A card template, which is a PowerPoint file
• A Google Slides version. The Google Slides link is at the bottom of the first page of the file.

How to use it

• Pairs: put students in pairs to work together to match the numbered and lettered expression cards.
• Whole class: give each student a card (this works for groups of 24 or fewer) and have them find their match. They can switch cards and find new matches.
• Station: set up the pre-cut cards as a station.
• Independent work: have students work on their own and use it as an informal assessment. You do not have to give students all of the cards. See the answer key and give out only the solution cards that go with the number of expressions you want them to work with.
