What a nice thing to read in this blog about homework. Nowadays, many students need parents support but due to their own work parents don't give much time to help their children in studies. Students need solutions of their problems, they want someone who could provide all solutions any anytime and give basic knowledge also. We have experts guidance who are always ready to help you in your assignment with a very low price. I express my sincere thanks to the Writer.

I think it's important to know about the children's backgrounds so that you can empathize with them, and in turn assist them with support when needed. I don't think giving less homework { to lower the bar } is the way to do it though.

just another example of allowing our lowest performing students to dictate our philosophy and instruction. Student who lack support at home are already at a big disadvantage, for teachers to lower their expectations of what they can produce puts these students at an even greater disadvantage. In order for students from chaotic home lives to be successful, they need to develop great resiliency. This is unfortunate and unfair, but it is the reality of the world we live in. consistent homework coupled with relational instruction is a great way of providing an opportunity to develop resiliency and responsibility amidst chaos.

which student will be successful?

the student who comes home to an insufficient dinner and is then forced to take care of younger siblings while mom drinks

or the student with the same situation who stay up to finish their homework.

Developing resiliency and a "do whatever it takes attitude" is paramount for overcoming poverty or a chaotic home life.

with all this being said i do think it is important to know your students situations and be understanding and accommodating if they are going through a particularly hard time.

which student will be successful?

the student who comes home to an insufficient dinner and is then forced to take care of younger siblings while mom drinks

or the student with the same situation who stay up to finish their homework.

Developing resiliency and a "do whatever it takes attitude" is paramount for overcoming poverty or a chaotic home life.

with all this being said i do think it is important to know your students situations and be understanding and accommodating if they are going through a particularly hard time.

I attended a workshop last Friday at my kids' school and they don't call homework "homework" but "home learning". We were shown a short video clip about Alfie Kohn talking about homework -- kids are not vending machines, you don't put in homework and expect learning to come out. The school has shifted from "homework" to "home learning" to develop 'autonomy, mastery and purpose' (quoting from Dan Pink, the author of "Drive". My son, who is in kindergarten doesn't have any homework. My daughter, who is in 2nd grade, is given a set of activities every 6-week cycle. She can choose to do or not to do any of these activities. The only required homework she has every day is to read and to learn her 10 spelling words.

cheriemae@gmail.com
Fluttering through the Seasons
