My fifth graders work on a checkbook activity every year. They are required to pay their "bills", keep an accurate checkbook balance, and record all of their check and debit card transactions in their registry. They absolutely love it! This coincides with our unit on decimals. It touches so many skills... adding/subtracting decimals, write the word form of numbers on the check, showing cents as fractions and the list goes on and on. Love to show them "real world" math.

I love this activity! I still feel a little uneasy writing checks since I've never really had a formal lesson on it. This has so many great real world applications, thank you for posting! Will definitely be using with my kiddies.

I absolutely love this activity. It is definitely requires a higher level of understanding than my first graders can handle, but I so wish that I would have had a lesson on check writing. I literally did not learn this skill until late into high school.

Jasmine
Buzzing With Mrs. McClain
