The Mini Me Project is a scale and proportional reasoning activity for grades 6 and 7 that blends math, measurement and creativity into one lesson.

Students take real-life measurements of themselves and use a scale factor to create a miniature version. They draw their “Mini Me” to scale, then analyze the math behind the transformation. The project involves real-world math applications, collaboration, and conceptual understanding of ratios, proportions and graphing relationships.

Skills covered

Understanding and applying scale factors

Converting measurements using ratios and proportions

Graphing proportional relationships

Writing and using linear equations

Solving real-world problems involving proportions and scale drawings

Quick facts

Grades: 6–7

CCSS: 7.G.A.1, 6.SP.B.5, 6.EE.C.9, 7.EE.B.4, 6.RP.A.1, 6.RP.A.3a, 6.RP.A.3d, 7.RP.A.1, 7.RP.A.2, 7.RP.A.3

Answer key: included

For Pi Day or any geometry unit, this set of Pi Day activities for middle school has students measure real cylindrical objects (soda cans, jars or bottles) and use pi to find diameter, radius, circumference, area and volume.

A Google Slides version is included for digital use, and there is an alternative worksheet for classrooms without physical objects.

What’s included

Pi facts graphic organizer, to introduce or review key facts about pi

Measurement and calculation table, where students record and find values for real cylinders

Alternative worksheet, ready to use when you have no objects

Google Slides version for virtual learning or digital assignments

Answer key, for quick grading or as a self-checking option

Good to know

This is a no prep activity, and you can run it either way: with real objects or with the provided worksheet. With objects, students handle and measure real cylinders, which gives the geometry a real-world application.

Quick facts

Grades: 6–9

CCSS: 7.G.B.4, 7.G.B.6, 8.G.C.9
